The information that recently appeared on blogs and social networks about the manufacturer’s remote locking of BMW cars used in Russia when connected to dealers’ diagnostic equipment caused the effect of an exploding bomb. They immediately remembered the sanctions, problems with spare parts and maintenance, and much more. And some citizens even believed in this untruth, with the firm intention of refusing official service in favor of specialized private gas stations. The AutoVzglyad portal discovered the situation. Dealers have denied rumors that BMW owners are having problems

So a rumor spread throughout the country that connecting Bavarian cars to service equipment immediately leads to their complete destruction: the cars turn into stones and cannot perform any of their functions. They say that the evil Germans, within the framework of nationally discrediting sanctions, decided in such a cunning way to deprive domestic fans of the brand of their expensive toys. Frankly, in the general information noise, you could believe in such a coincidence of political circumstances, and that is where lovers of “hype” and “likes” benefit.

But even very cursory research has shown that, as usual, there is little truth in this news. Firstly, only the MyBMW function released in 2021 was disabled, which allows you to start the car and check the fuel supply from anywhere in the world. And Russian motorists today are really deprived of this opportunity. The ‘ears’ of the story that shook the community come from a completely different place.

We are talking about a telemetry unit with which the evil Gauls, according to the cries of bloggers, would like to disable the entire car. But he is solely responsible for the useless German navigation in Russia, which no one used anyway. In addition, problems with Apple Carplay can also be solved: the price is 2000 rubles and 15 minutes of time at any specialized service. Where did the information about the destruction of all the machine’s “brains” come from?

We asked this question to specialists from various gas stations that repair cars from German car manufacturers. And this is what they heard in response. According to professionals, modern vehicles really need to be updated periodically, just like on a smartphone. And sometimes, at the moment when the latest version is “uploaded”, a malfunction occurs and the car really turns into a stone.

Previously, such an accident was resolved in the following way: a more experienced specialist came, set up a communication channel with the brand’s headquarters, performed all the necessary procedures and gave the unsuspecting customer a completely serviceable car. Admittedly, the latter did not have to wait in the client room for two hours, but, for example, four hours.

Today, when ties with Europe have been severed, such a problem is also solved, but in a different way: in all major Russian cities there are craftsmen who are able to restore the reputation of a specialist, and at the same time improve the performance of the unit, in a short time and 100,000 rubles. This is traditionally done through Armenia, Georgia and other countries that are less aggressive than Germany and lean towards us.

The hysteria that took place against the background of meaningless news only speaks about the difficult mental state of Russians and the abundance of new influencers who regularly take advantage of the flow of information in recent years. The conclusions should be simple: for mental health today you need to turn on the TV less often and use only reliable sources of information. Times like these, yes.
