Why Russian drivers are massively refusing to buy Chinese tires

The severe frost at the beginning of the year revealed many unpleasant features of Chinese goods that were not mentioned in advertising brochures. In particular, it suddenly became clear that not all cars from the Middle Kingdom are ready for frost, especially if they crackle and do not stroke. And auto parts from China suddenly stopped performing their duties under the pressure of a thermometer. The “heavenly” tires also suffered – cheap is rarely good. Details are on the AvtoVzglyad portal.
The tire counters experienced a real rain of money in 2022, causing prices to rise monstrously against the background of a general crisis. The sellers became rich and wanted to continue to fill their pockets, but then the market decided: Russian factories began to operate and local tires were imported from China in containers and trains, which at the same time made it possible to normalize prices in 2023. The result was that at the end of the year a quite decent set from a reputable manufacturer and of high quality could be purchased for reasonable money – almost like in 2020.
Perhaps the best thing tires from China can do for Russian drivers is to stabilize the market price. We have yet to discover the specific characteristics of summer tires, because while everyone is wearing their old tires, winter tires have already found their way onto domestic roads en masse this year. And they immediately gave rise to complaints. Especially when the frost became bitter and the thermometers in the cellars dropped.
The first “features” of Chinese ties were noted in Siberia, where it froze – sharp, without preludes. Suddenly the winter tires not only became oak, which shouldn’t happen with the right mix, but they literally started ringing! That is, when you tapped the tire with a key, a characteristic and very melodic sound was heard. Naturally, there was no grip on the road whatsoever – like a cow on ice. Of course, everyone has seen images from the Arctic, where at -55 degrees the tires of trucks simply explode and burst, but the Siberian authors conducted experiments in completely different weather: it was below 30 degrees Celsius outside.
In mild weather conditions and if you stick to the speed limit and drive the car consciously – the speed on the speedometer may not always coincide with the limit on the road sign – tires from China still hold up and are generally up to the task On. Not brilliant, but bearable. However, as soon as the temperature drops and the speed actually increases, the attractions begin.
Miracles do not happen: winter tires are elastic and temperature resistant, precisely thanks to the use of natural rubber in production, which costs much more than synthetic rubber. Famous manufacturers, who know the value of their brand and have built a reputation for years, did not hesitate to ask for a lot, but also fought for the quality of the product.
In China the situation is different: in three out of four cases you will simply never see the tire you bought last year on the shelves again. Brand is nothing, sales is everything. Exceptions, of course, occur, but these are rare and confirm their exclusivity, and such tires cost as if they were quite decent and trusted. Draw your own conclusions…
