In China, at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Motor Show, Toyota showed the new Granvia minivan. We are talking about the creation of a division of FAW-Toyota, which is a modified single-volume Sienna from GAC-Toyota. Both models are based on the TNGA-K front-wheel drive platform familiar from the Toyota Camry, both rely on a 249-horsepower hybrid powertrain with an E-CVT electromechanical variator and a 2.5-liter gasoline engine.
The Chinese Toyota Granvia differs from the American Sienna with the XSE package in touches – otherwise, the grids in the bumpers are decorated; roof rails, trim and 20-inch chrome wheels, not black. The basic equipment is richer, because in the Celestial Empire minivans are focused not only on family buyers, but also on businessmen.
The key difference in the cabin is the appearance of a 12.3-inch touchscreen media system. Adjustment washers and hot keys of the Toyota Granvia infotainment complex are not stacked – the entire interface is entrusted to the touch screen. All minivans localized in the Celestial Empire also have a virtual dashboard, which is not allowed by the American Sienna even for a surcharge. The seven-seater layout with second-row captain’s chairs has been retained.
There is no need for all-wheel drive in China, so the range is cut – Toyota Granvia is sold only with a twin-engine hybrid power plant with a peak power of 249 horsepower. A cross-version for outdoor enthusiasts is also not yet offered. The expected fuel consumption is about 7.2 liters of AI-92 gasoline per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle (data for Toyota Sienna).
Pricing has yet to be announced, but Chinese journalists expect the Toyota Granvia to cost compared to the Sienna, meaning the base minivan will cost around 310,000 yuan ($46,000). Export deliveries of localized GAC-Toyota and FAW-Toyota monocabs have not been confirmed.
