The idea of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management to ban electric scooter drivers from driving at a speed of more than 25 km/h has been approved by 82% of Russians. 14% of the respondents were against. This is evident from the publication on the website of the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM).
People in the 34-44 age group have been reported to show maximum support for this proposal. Among them, 59% “full support” and 26% “prefer to support”. Against the speed limits of electric scooters, it is mainly the younger generation – citizens from 18 to 24 years old. Of these, 18% ‘prefer not’ and 11% ‘don’t support’.
Most respondents, 81%, attribute the increase in the number of accidents involving electric scooters to the growth in their popularity. More than a third of the survey participants – 36% – consider this impact serious, and 45% consider the impact of the popularity of individual electric vehicles with an increase in accidents to be insignificant. In general, these two phenomena are not associated with each other by 7% of the respondents.
The survey also found that electric scooters aren’t really widespread across the country yet: 91% of the survey participants don’t ride electric scooters at all, and the remaining 9% do so only occasionally. The survey was conducted on May 27 by polling randomly selected 1,600 Russians.
