The Integra sports car will become an iconic model for Acura, not only because of the return of the iconic name. He was also destined to go down in history as the last model of the Japanese brand, equipped with an internal combustion engine. With the release of the 2023 Integra, Acura will head towards electrification. Moreover, as it was announced last year, the company intends to go through the phase of hybrids and immediately start developing pure electric cars.
The revived Integra received an internal combustion engine, but it is she who will help the brand prepare for future electrification. According to Emil Korkor, assistant brand vice president of national sales, Acura will use the sports car to grow a new generation of brand fans who will be ready to move into the era of battery cars.
As early as next year, Acura will switch to the development of exclusively environmentally friendly models. At the same time, unlike parent Honda, the company will go through a phase of hybrid cars.
Acura’s first all-electric vehicle is scheduled to debut in 2024, likely to be a crossover on General Motors’ Ultium platform that it will share with the Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. Honda will launch its SUV counterpart on the same GM trolley – it will be called the Prologue.
The production version of the Acura Integra was introduced in March 2022. The liftback is based on the eleventh generation Honda Civic platform, and it is powered by a 1.5-liter Civic Si turbo engine with a capacity of 203 horsepower (260 Nm). CVT is the standard for the car, but most buyers choose mechanics: Acura shared these statistics after the first week of accepting orders.
