There was one ruble – it became three: why did Chinese cars suddenly become fabulously expensive?

With the start of the Ukrainian special operation, a “price swing” began on the Russian car market. After the interruption of logistics supplies and a sharp rise in exchange rates, dealers felt omnipotent and started to put completely inhumane price tags on cars. For example, how to make Kia Carnival for 13,000,000 “rubles”, that is, three times more expensive than the official “price”? At the same time, many manufacturers, especially Chinese ones, supported their sellers by quietly rewriting recommended retail prices. But now there is a backlash.
If exactly 19 rubles were given for one yuan on March 11, the exchange rate of the Chinese currency has now fallen to a multi-year low: the current rate fluctuates between eight and nine rubles. For example, Chery and Geely promptly lowered their suggested retail prices.
It seems that Haval should follow the lead of colleagues. In addition, this brand has its own factory near Tula, which means that it has to be much less dependent on exchange rate fluctuations… But no: price lists, to put it mildly, are notable for their inadequacy.
Let’s take the Haval F7. For this crossover, the manufacturer does not hesitate to ask for 2,749,000 rubles, not counting the dealers’ markings! But classmate Geely Atlas Pro has a more powerful engine, better equipment and, moreover, costs as much as 200,000 cheaper. Where, I’d like to ask, is the logic?
Logic is not observed in the pricing of the main novelty – a crossover or an SUV Dargo. For a front-wheel drive car, Haval did not hesitate to ask for 3,199,000. For that money you can really buy the flagship Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max – with four-wheel drive and a two-liter engine.
True, the initial equipment of the “Big Dog”, as translated by Dargo, includes six airbags, one-zone climate control, a winter package, a good media system, LED headlights and a keyless entry system. But why did they forget to cover the trunk with a roller blind?
Ah, sorry, this is the privilege of more expensive trim levels. As well as penny front parking sensors and heated rear seats, which even the average versions of LADA cars have. And if you add a max of options, the new Haval will bring in four million.
Probably, the Chinese brand believes that even that kind of money can be asked for an extraordinary design and a modern platform. Especially – in the absence of European, Japanese and Korean competitors, when it is completely incomprehensible how much an SUV of such dimensions should cost.
But let’s repeat. Other brands are less daring, therefore increasing the number of dealers, which will surely result in more sales. And it’s scary to imagine what will happen when the Russian market sees the big and solid Geely Monjaro (pictured above)…
With such greed, Haval can easily lose the army of his fans that is just beginning to form. And this is very, very bad: our compatriots work in the factory at Tula, who want stability, not austerity.
