Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has banned the export of trucks, dump trucks and bulldozers from the land of the Rising Sun to Russia. The AvtoVzglyad portal decided to find out what this threatens our country.
In fact, Russian carriers are not very dependent on Japanese trucks. Yes, Hino and Fuso cabover medium duty vehicles have been in high demand lately from domestic retailers. But instead of these cars, you can buy Hyundai equipment, and the Russian GAZ and KamAZ are ready to offer the Valdai and Compass models, respectively.
In the heavy segment, the same Hino and Fuso were generally a rare exception. Komtrans of these brands is most often found in the Far East, and even then – with the steering wheel on the right. (By the way, there’s no clarification yet from official Tokyo whether the new ban will apply to commercial “beusheks” that are in so much demand outside the Urals.)
The only pity is that after the introduction of the next package of anti-Russian sanctions, the launch of the Hino plant, most likely, will not take place in the Moscow region. They planned to produce a variety of trucks with gross weights from 3.5 to 18 tons. But now the nearly completed production site with an annual capacity of 2,000 cars has to be frozen.
With regard to construction and mining equipment, the exodus of the Japanese will be noticeably more tangible here. After all, the products of the Komatsu brand worked on many construction sites, quarries and road construction. It has always been appreciated for its quality and durability, so some time ago a factory for the production of excavators was opened near Yaroslavl.
However, as the last exhibition CTT Expo 2022 showed, excavators and bulldozers of a similar class are also in the range of Russian manufacturers. And what’s not there, the Chinese industrial giants are ready to bring. For example, Sany Heavy Industry Company Limited is the world leader in excavator manufacturing for a second time!
In general, our neighbors in the Kuril Islands again adhere to the logic of “to bully my grandmother, I get frostbite of my ears.” After all, while Hino, Fuso and Komatsu ignore the needs of Russian business, other companies will quickly and decisively take their place – mainly from the Russian Federation and China. And it will be much harder to return later than to leave now…
