A loud click when the door is opened and no less sonorous when it is closed is a characteristic “pain” of many cars. Employed by an authorized dealer, it is repaired by replacing the bolt and tearing off three skins from the owner. In fact, the problem isn’t worth it. Why, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Sooner or later each of us will hear this sonorous, sharp and steadily decaying sound: a loud click when opening the driver’s door. It is she, as the most popular, who becomes the first in a series of those that need to be repaired. When closing, the sound naturally reminds you of itself again. We’ve arrived, it’s hot. But new cars are just around the corner!

The problem lies in the latch, which wears out over time. At the gas station, especially when it comes to “officials”, they will immediately offer to repair it: replacement of the damaged unit, which has yet to be found, ordered and delivered, the captain’s work and the “damage surcharge” will leave a significant hole in the budget. The same size as the hole in the heart of the annoying click. Everything is as usual: bear or pay.

However, if you’re lucky enough to be with the garage masters (which the state will soon liquidate as a class, though) or simply share misfortune with co-workers in misfortune, it will most likely be possible to overcome adversity with little bloodshed. Or rather, completely without blood: the culprit of this “triumph” is usually the riveting that is in the hinge of the limiter. From hundreds of thousands of openings and closures, it loosens and over time starts making that same annoying noise. How to solve the problem? The answer is simple and obvious to any Russian: just latch it on. The task will require diligence and accuracy, but if it succeeds, it will be completely free.

Experience shows that it is the lower part that is loosened, the one closer to the ground. It is, and it is necessary to “adjust to the new size”. To do this, we take two hammers, the neatest neighbor in the garage and a lazy Friday night, as well as bed linen on the floor. Having adopted a sleeping position called “log”, we ask our partner to put a hammer on the top cap of the rivet, and we ourselves sound the lower part with gentle movements. If you managed to catch the symptom in the beginning, then this approach will allow you to succeed indiscriminately. In most cases, however, you will need to remove the door latch.

After removing the part, you need to place the rivet with the upper part on an even hammer and carefully riveting the lower part with the second “hammer”. It will take many times less time to work than for installation and disassembly, but only in this way it will be possible to perform the work accurately and reliably. Key point: Under no circumstances should you strike hard in the hope of riveting a worn-out piece of iron with one strike. It is better to hit 10 times weakly than once hard, but at the same time break the bolt itself.

However, the resulting effect will be enough to justify both the whole evening in the garage and the time spent on installation work: a defect repaired independently and free of charge will guarantee self-confidence, a luxury bike for meetings with colleagues and just a good mood .
