With the actual boycott of the Russian market by most of the car manufacturers in the world, domestic social activists decided to fight with a proven and eccentric method: using the law enforcement system. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” appreciated the prospects of this enterprise.

The Russian branches of Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes and Iveco were complained to the Ministry of the Interior and the prosecutor general’s office. At least that was announced by an organization called the Community Consumer Initiative (CPI).

— Following the sanctions policy of foreign states, the largest western automakers have announced an indefinite cessation of activities in Russia. Among them are the owners of brands such as Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco, among which are the most popular trucks in the transport and logistics sector, including truck tractors, previously (before the imposition of sanctions) to the Russian market, citing the media representatives of these organizations.

OPI is not happy with the fact that Russian subsidiaries of foreign car manufacturers have stopped producing, importing and supplying cars and spare parts to Russia, and also stopped servicing and repairing their cars on our territory.

Besides the fact that such behavior is socially dangerous and infringes on the legitimate interests of millions of Russian citizens and organizations, the steps of foreign car manufacturers caused a jump in prices for trucks still at dealers, spare parts for them, as well as maintenance and repair. .

The OPI states that these factors have led to a sharp increase in the costs of freight transport in our country. In addition, the closure of Russian factories owned by foreign car brands has caused a drop in tax revenues for the budget and also created unemployment.

It is not entirely clear which articles of the Criminal Code are to be checked by the prosecutor general’s office and the Ministry of the Interior for compliance with the Russian offices of foreign affairs. However, lawyers already have serious doubts about the success of this venture.

– I note that the Prosecutor’s Office of the Prosecutor General and the Ministry of the Interior are being asked to check the representations of the truck manufacturers Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes and Iveco and, if necessary, criminalize their leaders (!) set. Under Russian law, it can only take place in cases of fraud or willful (or fictitious) bankruptcy. That is, an attempt to hold criminally liable the same managing director of Scania-Rus LLC Montagna Simone, for example, is theoretically possible. But it will be nearly impossible to bring the case to an incriminating court decision. At least based on the fact that our hypothetical defendant was in force majeure. After all, the decision to suspend the activities of the Russian office is not taken by his head! This is the work of the automaker’s headquarters, which has halted deliveries to Russia of its cars and parts for them, – said Alexei Shichavin, executive director of the Independent Union of Expert Technicians and Human Rights Defenders.

For example, the high-profile “law enforcement” demarche by a little-known public organization can only be regarded as an attempt at some sort of PR on the subject of anti-Russian activities by a number of countries. Although it could of course be that the Public Consumer Initiative simply did not have an intelligent criminal lawyer.
