The odometer of a brand new car displayed in the showroom never shows zero miles. In addition, somewhere this mileage is small – just a few kilometers, and somewhere it can be several dozen. How is this possible? After all, the dealer claims that the car is new. Yes, it is possible. And we’ll tell you why.
Everything starts with production. In the battle for quality, car manufacturers do their best to protect themselves and dealers from the risks of handing in the car in the first weeks of use due to possible manufacturing or manufacturing defects. After all, the latter are fraught with financial losses, courts and lawsuits. And this is a blow to the reputation of the brand as a whole.
For example, in Russia you can return a car in which defects and manufacturing defects have felt in the first two weeks of use. Agree, the engine trouble light was on, even if it was caused by a minor malfunction or malfunction of the sensor, spark plugs … which in principle can be repaired by a dealer service station, for someone can be a serious reason to replace a broken car supply and replace it with a new one. To avoid this, car manufacturers drive cars, test them and check build quality. And this applies to virtually any wheeled equipment, including tractors and combines.
But each manufacturer determines for itself how many test kilometers the car has to cover. Depending on the brand, the mileage can therefore vary from a few tens to 500 kilometers. Errors found during these tests are eliminated by the car manufacturer and then the car passes the tests again.
The mileage is also added by the so-called service and transport manipulations with the car – it is driven from place to place, rolled up and unrolled from the car carrier, driven around the territory of the dealership. In general, have the extra miles where they have to come from.
However, it should be understood that even if the service miles allow 100, 200 and 300 km, it does not mean that absolutely all cars should have this on their odometer. Usually the mileage is very small and goes up to several tens of kilometers. And if there are more than a hundred or two of them, then this is an opportunity to think carefully about whether it is worth buying such a car. It is possible that its further exploitation will lead to serious problems for the owner.
