Production at the Moskvich plant will resume in the capital at the end of 2022. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov spoke about this at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. In addition, the assembly site may produce both cars with traditional engines and hybrids with electric vehicles.
On May 16, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that the Renault plant, located on the territory of the former AZLK, would be taken over by the city after the French left Russia. All this is done in order to preserve the team and to start the production of cars under the historic Moskvich brand. The mayor of the capital stressed that in the first phase they will organize the production of cars with traditional engines and in the future will produce hybrid and electric vehicles.
Denis Manturov of SPIEF-2022 confirmed this information. He also specified that KamAZ would become the factory’s main technology partner. It is also known that in the first phase it is planned to produce up to 30,000 cars per year.
In addition, the minister said that household electric vehicles will also be assembled at the Motorinvest plant. The first copies should roll off the production line in the third quarter of 2022. It was previously reported that the Lipetsk company Motorinvest has signed a SPIC with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which provides for investments of 13 billion rubles over 11 years in organizing the production of electric cars under the Evolute brand.
