“Now, of course, the passenger car market demands special attention, where supply is scarce and prices have risen sharply. I would also listen to the opinion of the Minister of Finance, after all, metal prices are really falling in our country, the course has changed and this should of course be reflected in the prices,” RIA Novosti quotes Putin as saying.
We are sure that Russian citizens will be pleased only with the appearance of affordable cars. Certainly if so-called demand support programs also start working: 20.7 billion rubles have been earmarked for them (10.2 billion will be used to resume car loans, 4.9 billion in preferential leasing and 2.6 billion in discounts on electric transport and 3.3 billion will be spent on gas-powered vehicles).
And if all of these funds become available to consumers in the near future, those stocks of cars that dealers still have may sell out. Provided, of course, that the same preferential car loans are really preferential. As for the allocated funds for “electric trains”, it is unlikely that the Russians will take them in large numbers, that is, everything we swell in this “green future” is money for the wind, not for the resuscitation of the car market. Meanwhile, the simplified LADA Granta has become the most budget car this year. The price of a sedan starts from 658,300 rubles, which is quite attractive. Next, we wait for the same simplified UAZs. However, it is too early for officials to rejoice.
Remember that these cars will be without ABS and airbags, which could lead to an increase in the number of serious accidents in the future. And for that, heads may roll at the National Traffic Inspectorate. The factory workers assure that such versions will not be produced for a long time and have already found a replacement for Bosch products, which provided electronics to the conveyors of UAZ and AVTOVAZ.
In particular, the Drom portal, citing its own sources, writes that the ABS system of the Chinese company Trinova will be installed on LADA Largus. The first copies of such a “Largus” were supposed to appear at the end of June, but the Chinese postponed the delivery of components due to covid lockdowns. Now the question is about testing, fine-tuning the system and its certification. As for UAZ, Ulyanovsk chose the products of the Chinese company APG. This system is a modified clone of the Bosch 8.1 variant. This also involves testing and certifying machines with a different ABS. I mean, it’s a long one. Well, if such versions come out this year.
However, the most difficult task for officials from the automotive industry is the revival of the Russian design school, which has basically been destroyed. After all, it is young engineers who have to develop various electronic components and then implement them on Russian cars, so that car factories do not depend on suppliers from Asia or Europe. This only makes cars cheaper and safer.
Here we can only recall the experience of the Aurus project, in which specialists were trained in Germany. Perhaps this is the impetus for the development of their own developments. However, the task of revitalizing the engineering corps itself seems immensely difficult, if at all achievable in the near future. Not only will it take a huge amount of time, but it will also be a solid investment. Whether the servants of the people can handle it – time will tell.
