The small CAOA Cherry cars are very successful in the Chinese car market and even become the best-selling cars in the world. The manufacturer will launch in Brazil at the end of June Cherry iCar with a proposal to conquer the Brazilian market. The electric car will be the cheapest in the country and will cost BRL 139,990.
Top speed iCar with 61 hp engine. The iCar is not a new model, in fact it is a CAOA eQ1 update that was released in 2017 and updated in 2021 with improvements in equipment and autonomy.
The urban and compact model will really draw attention with its tiny dimensions: 3.20 m long, 1.67 m wide and 1.55 m high. The length of the car is 40 cm shorter than the Fiat Mobi, which is 3.60 m long.
Even though it is the cheapest electric car to debut in the country, we cannot say that its cost will fit in the pocket of most people. At least the compact microcar is different from the Brazilian three-wheeled electric car that looks “cut in half”.
Another interesting detail is that the entire body of the car is made of plastic. Doors, trunk and hood are completely removable. At the bottom, the car has an aluminum structure that acts as a frame.
The Cherry iCar’s engine is at the rear, so the front is a “box”, a component designed to absorb shock in the event of a frontal crash. According to the manufacturer, iCar also has a 10-inch multimedia display, air conditioning that can be turned on remotely, a recharge schedule and a start button.
The CAOA Cherry iCar will go on sale in Brazil later this month for R$139,990. Despite being called the cheapest electric car in the country, the cost of more than 100,000 reais should not encourage users much. Even though the market for electric vehicles is growing significantly, affordable models are still considered out of reach for the vast majority of Brazilians. It remains to be seen if Cherry’s CAOA option will encourage users to buy their first electric car.
