The Chelyabinsk region was visited by the First Secretaries of the South African Embassy in the Russian Federation. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out why the representatives of the African country made this trip.

As part of their visit, guests visited the Ural Automobile Plant, where they viewed the factory museum and assembly workshop. In addition, representatives of the Republic of South Africa openly stated that the main purpose of the trip was to find a partner capable of organizing the assembly production of cars on the state property in the Western Cape province on the site of the former Mercedes assembly plant.

True, it is not very clear what kind of closed factory we are talking about – the company that makes Mercedes-Benz cars seems to continue to operate successfully. In addition, many models of the German brand, including the C-class, are exported all over the world from there…

Perhaps the bosses of the “star with three rays” only turned off the production of trucks. They were indeed produced in the Western Cape, but now the manufacturer’s website states that the assembly site only makes cars and buses.

In any case, the fact that the South African authorities want to produce Ural trucks instead of Mercedes deserves respect! The main thing now is that the visit of the embassy staff should go to the next stage – to the direct assembly of Russian cars.
