Here is a fairly general scheme for such a “divorce”. Some owners of cars of brands that have officially left Russia are faced with it. For example Cadillac, Volvo, Jaguar Land Rover. When the owner of a car arrives at a Russian dealer of such a car brand with a technical problem that is covered by warranty, he is, of course, first received with open arms and correctly diagnosed with a malfunction.

But then the car owner is told that the brand has left Russia and therefore no longer carries out official deliveries of original car parts to our country. Therefore, warranty repairs, as before, they say, can not produce. But the technical center can, as it were, privately purchase the necessary parts abroad and bring them to Russia. But since this path is not official, repairs with spare parts obtained in this way are possible only for the money of the customer and not free under the warranty. In fact, the car owner is offered to pay in full for the warranty repair of his car, which he would have done completely free of charge a few months ago.

In fact, such “feint with the ears” imposed by the dealer is completely illegal. It directly contradicts paragraph 6 of Article 18 of the Act “Protection of Consumer Rights”. Without any exceptions related to anti-Russian sanctions and other economic problems of the seller of goods that failed before the expiry of the warranty period. For the automotive sector, the only reason for refusing warranty repairs may be if the car owner requires it to be performed after an accident, after attempting to repair his car himself, or if, for example, the car’s engine has failed. due to the use of “left-hand” gasoline, that is, for improper maintenance. And in that case, any court will sided with the car owner in case of unlawful refusal of free repair under warranty. Dealers are well aware of this.
