The troops of the 2nd Shock Army, which were surrounded from March to the end of June 1942, did not stop fighting fiercely, thus holding back the enemy in a southeasterly direction. Exactly 80 years have passed since the tragic event when the ring closed. And on the eve of the anniversary, the memory of the fallen soldiers, who became real heroes, was honored at the monument located on the 563rd km of the M11 Neva highway.

Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Avtodor State Company, Andrey Danilov, Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region, and Lieutenant Yankovets.

They not only honored the memory of the heroes, but also announced plans for the development of the memorial complex. So, in the near future, a free museum dedicated to the achievement of the 2nd Shock Army will appear at the monument. Visitors can see artifacts found during the preparations for the construction of the M-11 Neva highway. The site itself will also be expanded: there will be a multifunctional zone with gas stations and cafes.

As expected, the sketches of the second phase of the monument and the MFZ will be approved in the autumn. By the end of the same year, the implementation of the project will begin.

“This memorial is not only needed for the relatives and friends of the fighters who died here, but more importantly, we also need this memorial. To prevent this from happening again, as many people as possible must be involved in perpetuating the memory of combatants and educating young people with respect for Russian history, the memory of our ancestors, – emphasized Vyacheslav Petushenko, chairman of the council board of the state Avtodor company.
