Motorists told how much they are willing to pay for a Chinese car
The future of the Russian auto industry is bleak, not just because of sanctions pressures, component issues and other issues. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” during an investigation organized by him revealed another nuance that is unpleasant for the market.

For more than four months, the Russian car market has been in a state of real stress after the events of February. And everyone remembers how all kinds of car market analysts talked about how the Chinese car industry was about to overwhelm Russia with its products, solve the problem of vehicle shortage and replace the outgoing and “suspended” brands in our country. Practice shows that the influx of cars from China has not only not taken place, but is also not expected in the foreseeable future. Chinese suppliers have also increased the Russian prices for their cars in the same way as the “Europeans”.

And they are in no hurry to lower them, even against the background of the fact that the exchange rate of the ruble against the dollar is now much higher than in January 2022, even on international trading and financial platforms, and not only at local auctions of the Moscow Stock Exchange. And of course there were no shocks with logistics along the China-Russia line. That is, our Chinese “brothers for a century” are tritely trying to reduce the superprofits in the Russian market, taking advantage of the current economic situation here and driving up prices. Meanwhile, as practice shows, the purchasing power of the Russian motorist clearly does not keep up with the appetite of car dealers. It roughly corresponds to the economic reality of late last year and early this year. Then the price of a well-equipped average “Chinese” was considered sufficient at about 2 million rubles.

Now we remember that the same Chinese models with the same trim level are offered for 3.5-4 million rubles. In large part because of this, the Russians have clearly opened their eyes to the Chinese car industry. This is confirmed by the results of a survey conducted the day before by the AvtoVzglyad portal among its readers. They had to answer the question, “Are you ready to switch to a Chinese car?” The most impressive part of the respondents – 31% (630 participants) chose the answer: “I prefer LADA if AVTOVAZ offers an alternative for less money.” Second in popularity (26% of respondents, 525 people) the answer was “I will drive the old car to the end.”

In third place with 24% of the votes (478 respondents) was the answer “I will switch to a Chinese car if it does not cost more than 1,500,000 rubles.” And only 18% of the participants (368 people) of the vote answered that they would switch without hesitation, because the “Chinese” have grown enormously in quality and reliability. So the vast majority – about 82% of those who voted – don’t consider adopting the brainchild of the Chinese auto industry at all, or are only willing to do so if the “Chinese” compete in the market niche occupied by AVTOVAZ.

Meanwhile, lately Chinese automakers have been busy not to bring budget models to the domestic market under any circumstances – any Chinese “premium” and electric self-driving “toys” with price tags of 5-10 million rubles. Well, as they say – “the flag is in their hands” …
