Former president of AVTOVAZ, Bo Inge Andersson, among whom LADA Kalina Cross, LAVA Vesta and LADA XRAY were born, some time ago headed the well-known company UzAuto Motors, which was engaged in the production of Chevrolet cars under license from General Motors in Uzbekistan. And now the Uzbek auto industry, led by a Swedish manager, is preparing to release an extremely curious novelty.
In July, a new era will dawn for UzAuto Motors, as representatives of the company itself assure. The main plant will start after a massive upgrade required to bring the latest Chevrolet models built on the GEM modular platform to the assembly line.
Chevrolet Tracker compact crossover will be the first to receive Uzbek registration. Almost half a billion dollars has been invested in the development of this machine! Another 200 million was spent on controlling the production of turbocharged engines near Tashkent.
As a result, a car with a length of 4270 mm will appear before the public, which can be considered an analogue of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Kaptur models. The novelty is expected to be sold at a price of about 1,500,000 Russian rubles (in terms of). After the crossover, the related Chevrolet Onix sedan will see the light.
But Russian motorists will not see Tracker or Onyx in the near future: the General Motors concern has officially canceled plans to export these cars to the Russian market. However, Uzbek or Russian businessmen can easily arrange the import. Unless of course it’s ‘sweet’ in terms of margin. Meanwhile, our compatriots rushed to buy the remains of cars from dealers. Chevrolet’s system crafts, in particular, are selling like hot cakes.
