At the beginning of the year, we compiled a calendar of the main astronomical events of the year (see). Now let’s see what will be in the sky in July. Already giving a spoiler, we will have several meteor showers, a supermoon, Mars and the Moon close in the sky and a cluster of stars. Rio Grande do Sul and southern Latin America will see a partial solar eclipse
In a day July 10, the Pegasid meteor shower will be in full swing. As the name suggests, this rain is in constellation Pegasus. In three days, on Wednesday, we will have Supermoon, second year. This phenomenon, which occurs when the Moon is very close to the Earth, is predicted to be visible from 18:00 on July 13.
Now let’s talk about some of the conjunctions when the Moon and the planets approach each other. On July 15 we will have a conjunction between our moon and Saturn, followed by a Moon conjunction with Jupiter 18. A conjunction with Jupiter will be the easiest to visualize as the Moon will be 60% bright. – and Jupiter always shines due to its size. Meanwhile, on the 17th, a globular cluster Messier 55 it will be seen. The cluster is located in the lower left corner of the constellation Sagittarius.
Returning to conjunctions, the Moon will be close to Mars on July 21 and Venus on July 26. The Mars conjunction will be an eclipse of the planet by the Moon in the Siberia region. Two days later, on July 28, our satellite will enter the new moon phase, the same day that the Austrian and Gamma Draconid meteor showers peak in the sky. Also on the 28th and on the night of the 29th we will have the South Delta Aquarids meteor shower. All these rains are more noticeable in the southern hemisphere.
The month ends with the Alpha Capricornida meteor shower, which peaks on the 30th, but the speed of this shower is 5 meteors per hour. Interestingly, it will also be possible to see the southern part of the Aquaridas Delta, which will make this a great night for lovers astronomy.
