Authorities have officially confirmed that the Russian car industry has fallen into a coma

The domestic auto industry saw a catastrophic production decline in May. The depressing data collected by the state statistics on behalf of Rosstat is published by the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Rosstat’s monthly report has numerically confirmed that the domestic auto industry is practically on the brink of death. In May 2022, only 3.3% of the cars produced in May 2021 rolled off the conveyor belts of the country’s auto companies. In figures, this year it was only about 4,000 cars, despite the fact that the Russian car factories produced about 120,000 passenger cars every month at the beginning of last winter.

In total, 268,000 cars have been assembled in Russia since the beginning of the year. This is only 43% of the production volume for January-May 2021. This is not surprising, given that only three of the 20 car assembly plants operate more or less in the country – AVTOVAZ, UAZ and the Haval plant in the Tula region.

The rest of the enterprises are “paused” or unable to function due to lack of imported components. Also consider that new passenger car sales also collapsed in May – by 84%. It’s just the beginning…
