Last Wednesday, June 29, resolution Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine (CFMV), responsible for regulating the use telemedicine for the provision of veterinary services, was published in Union official diary. OUR Decree No. 1465 explains some of the technical and technological standards that must be adopted in order to achieve this goal in accordance with the necessary guidelines, and also presents the requirements for the use of remote service methods.

According to CMV:

“A professional can develop a specific application for telemedicine or comprehensively use existing platforms, subject to the criteria and guarantees established in the regulation, fixing the technology used in the service in the medical record.

(…) [O veterinário deverá] to decide with free will and responsibility whether the information received complies with ethical conditions and sufficient digital security protocols for performing a veterinary medical action.

Despite the possibility of authorized use of this method, the specialist will be responsible for determining when personal consultations should be carried out, especially when telemedicine is inadequate. As regards the modalities already envisaged, some of them have been mentioned, for example: telemonitoring, teleconsultation, telediagnostics, teleorientation, teleinterconsultation, telesorting as well as teleconsultation.

For all prescriptions, prescriptions for controlled drugs will be confirmed through qualified electronic signatureusing digital certification. As with other applications, guidelines issued by specific regulatory bodies and organizations must be followed, such as Ministry of Health care and anviza (National Health Surveillance Agency), for example.
