the president USA, Joe Bidenhas provided Presidential Medal of Freedom Steve Jobs, co-founder and former CEO of Apple. This is the highest honor a country bestows on a civilian. According to the White House, the Personal Medal of Freedom is for “individuals who have made an exemplary contribution to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other important social, public, or private endeavours.“
Jobs founded Apple in 1976 and it has grown into one of the world’s leading technology companies. Despite being fired from his own company, he returned and was directly responsible for building the Mac, iPod, iPhone, and more. Passed away October 5, 2011.
Very popular during his lifetime, Jobs described himself as “disillusioned” by President Obama in a biography of Walter Isaacson. “He has leadership problems because he doesn’t want to hurt people or make them angry.“, Jobs said. “This is not a problem I have ever encountered.”
In a message, the White House praised Jobs: “Steve Jobs (died 2011) was the co-founder, CEO, and President of Apple, Inc., CEO of Pixar, and held an executive position at The Walt Disney Company.“
“His vision, imagination and creativity have led to inventions that are changing the way the world communicates, as well as transforming the computer, music, film and wireless industries.“, he added.
Joe Biden will present a medal to 17 US citizens, explaining that “America has long been defined by one word: opportunity. These seventeen Americans demonstrate the power of opportunity and embody the soul of the nation—hard work, perseverance, and faith. They overcame significant obstacles to achieve impressive achievements in the arts and sciences, dedicated their lives to protecting the most vulnerable among us, and acted with courage to bring about change in their communities and around the world, paving the way for future generations.“
Top names on the list include athlete Simone Biles, Senator Alan Simpson and actor Denzel Washington. The award will be presented on July 7th.
