The volume of the Russian passenger car and light commercial vehicle market continues to shrink year on year. The data from the Association of European Businesses (AEB) from last June confirms this trend, according to the AvtoVzglyad portal.

In June 2022, 27,761 cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) were sold in Russia. This is 82.0% (126,792 units) less than in June 2021. For example, turnover in June fell by about 5.6 times. In the first half of 2022, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles fell by 56.9% compared to the same period in 2021. Since the beginning of this year, a total of only 370,228 cars have been sold in our country.

The only car brand that has managed to show sales growth compared to last year is Isuzu. The Japanese brand sold 81 cars in Russia in June, up from 70 in the same period last year, boosting its results by 16%.

All other players in the Russian car market for cars and light commercial vehicles are experiencing a downturn. Changan has minimal losses, as a result of which sales in June 2022 fell by only 14% compared to June 2021 – from 400 units to 346. Next, UAZ follows the ranking of brand losses in the market with a decrease of 44% – from 2816 to 1583 cars . At about the same level, close to 40-50%, sales declined at FAW, Geely and Haval dealers.

The sales contraction of mass-market leaders such as LADA, Kia and Hyundai is around 80% compared to June 2021. Mitsubishi, Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen show month-on-month declines of about 90%.
