According to the maritime news agency, the new organization will report to the Naval Air Forces Command, and its main task is to facilitate planning and action through the use of remotely piloted aircraft (ARP). In addition to contributing to the history of the national naval aviation, the squadron will carry out activities related to surveillance and reconnaissance of mission sites.
New ECO-1 has six drone models ScanEagle, developed by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing. In addition to the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle, the troops will have launchers and pickup trucks designed to perform tasks on ships and on the ground. Drones will be used for naval traffic control such as naval inspection, illegal activity prevention, piracy, terrorism, disaster monitoring and maritime relief operations.

It is worth noting that the model ScanEagle, which will be used in Brazilian Navy missions, has a wingspan of 3.1 meters and a length of 1.6 meters. With 24-hour autonomy, the equipment weighs 22 kg, refuels with gasoline and can move at a speed 150 km/h after being launched by a catapult-like system, as you can see in the video above.
Another curiosity is that the drone made its first flight in June 2002 and was later introduced to the US Navy in 2005 and is often used commercially to monitor fish and marine life.
