“The problem is, since the shoemaker starts the cakes and the cakeman starts sewing boots …” However, the well-known postulates seem unknown to Russian state-owned companies. So the state-owned company Almaz-Antey, known for its air defense systems (including the S-300, S-400 and S-500 anti-aircraft systems), suddenly announced a completely non-core development – a civilian electric crossover .
For the past three years, the Obukhov plant has been continuously developing an electric vehicle, the main product of which is missile command posts. Actually, in the “real car industry” it is possible to make a real car in 36 months … But military engineers are much less efficient! Until now, only the only prototype of the future crossover is ready, which they suddenly decided to show to the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.
The 4.5 meter long SUV is based on the Neva platform, a prototype of which was first shown at the army exhibition last year. This architecture allows for the use of various power plants, including hydrogen.
However, a pure electric vehicle must become a key model. It is believed that the novelty called E-Neva will have a power reserve of 463 km and a top speed of 197 km/h, and the acceleration time to 60 km/h will be 2.7 seconds.
Those are just the serial prospects for this development, to say the least, are vague … Previously, Almaz-Antey assured that E-Neva would be produced by 2024 at the latest. But the production location has not yet been determined! Although in theory now is the time to start setting up the conveyor belt.
In addition, to meet the previously announced deadlines, cars have to drive test kilometers for days. However, as mentioned earlier, the “rocketmen” were able to make only one prototype instead of several dozen experimental and pre-production vehicles.
At the current stage, the whole project is more like a “manilovism”, the only task of which is to master the budget millions … Well, and to demonstrate the strength of the Russian defense industry, capable of seems to have both “furnace” cars and “sew” missiles.
The piquancy of all this is given by the fact that the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, known for example for the Kama-1 electric car, has become a partner of Almaz-Antey. Exactly the one KamAZ recognized as a student craft, totally unsuitable for mass production.
But maybe we’re wrong and E-Neva is a real breakthrough that can be “finished” to a salable state in record time. True, so far the chances of such an outcome are minimal, because now it is not clear even to the participants in the enterprise where the Obukhov plant will source components.
