Suzuki, Toyota and Daihatsu team up on a low-cost van

The Japanese companies Suzuki, Toyota, Daihatsu and CJPT will jointly develop affordable vans and compact vans that can be used for “last mile delivery” (from distribution centers to final recipient). Portal “AvtoVzglyad” provides details.

As the partners assure, now is the time to replace diesel vans with electric ones. However, the development and production of battery models is a costly affair and potential buyers are afraid of the need to constantly charge the batteries while the car cannot perform its direct tasks of delivering goods.

As a result, the partners plan to create an ultra-cheap but fast-charging truck that will be available even to poor customers. On sale, the first such machines should appear literally in a year.

We add that Suzuki and Toyota have a long-standing successful partnership. In particular, the platform for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder was donated by… Suzuki Vitara. So the creation of a “Volkswagen” is just a new direction of collaborative work.
