Smartwatch GTR 3 is a smart watch from Amazfit, a brand of Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, which is considered to be excellent value for money. While it can’t compete in quality with smartwatches from manufacturers Samsung and Apple, it’s a great option for those looking for a watch with a few of the features I mention in this video and below.

In addition to the GTR 3, the Amazfit watch family also has a Pro version, the GTR 3 Pro. There are also some changes to the positioning of the models, so it’s also interesting to keep an eye on what the GTR 2 has to offer, as it could be better in several ways compared to the GTR3.

design

The design of the Amazfit GTR3 smartwatch is very similar to that of the GTR2. It has a 1.39-inch high-resolution AMOLED screen with great contrast, with true black blacks that don’t fade into dark greys. It’s worth noting here that AMOLED is really interesting for smartwatches because it works by turning off pixels to draw black, which creates not only more interesting contrast but also better power management.

The bracelet is very comfortable, with small beads on the back that adapt well to the wrist. The finish of the watch is made of aluminum, which makes it lighter and still retains an attractive design.

There are only two buttons on the sides. By default, clicking on the top button opens the functions menu, and holding this button gives you access to the Alexa voice assistant. The bottom button opens sports options with a single click. Either way, you can customize what each opens.

The top button rotates, has a little vibration, which is nice for ease of use, makes the operation more enjoyable and interactive.

It is also waterproof, supporting up to 50 meters. But it is good to remember that such smart devices do not handle steam well, so it is not recommended to use them in hot water, for example, during a shower.

The microphone for features like Alexa is located between the two navigation buttons. And, despite their presence, it is unfortunately impossible to answer phone calls with its help. Below are your sensors.

Overall, the GTR3 is pretty good in design, but Xiaomi can’t offer its own magnetic charging instead of Qi wireless charging like the competition does. This here means that you will be in the hands of the company, if the charger breaks, it will be more difficult to find a spare part. In this sense, Apple and Samsung were better.

GTR 3 vs GTR 3 Pro

As mentioned, there is a pro version of the GTR3 and it is important to check their differences before buying.

The Pro version has differences that can be conspicuous, for starters it has an audio output and a temperature sensor. It also has the ability to make calls via Bluetooth.

In addition, the screen of the GTR 3 Pro is also larger, it is 1.45 inches, while the standard version has 1.39 inches.

Another small difference is in the design, the Pro version doesn’t have that little dash marking on the crown.

But these may not be decisive details for choosing one over the other. Something that might change your choice is the fact that the GTR3 Pro lets you store music while the regular version doesn’t. This is important for those who want to go for a run with just a watch and a Bluetooth headset.

The GTR3 Pro has 2.3GB of built-in memory, so you can play a lot of music.

Usability and health features

The two features that stand out the most here are heart rate monitoring and an oximeter. You can monitor your heart rate and the approximate amount of oxygen in your blood.

It’s good to have an idea if something is really wrong with your health, for those who are used to watching their body, these features are really useful. But here we do not have an ECG (electrocardiogram), an interested resource still needs to resort to the Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch.

You can also measure your heart rate, pulse oximeter, respiration rate and average stress level with just one touch.

In terms of monitoring, it’s great that it also uses these metrics to check your sleep. Even when it notices that you are sleeping, it automatically turns on Do Not Disturb mode and stops showing notifications.

You can also mark your runs via GPS, but with less accuracy than the Pro version, which has geolocation modes: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS, QZSS.

With regular use of these features, Xiaomi promises 21 days of battery life. But this figure can drop significantly with heavy use or if you use a lot of battery-intensive resources. In any case, the average for most people is over two weeks, which is a big highlight of this smart watch.

ZeppOS Application

The Zepp OS app is used to sync the GTR3 and mobile phone. And here you can be confused by someone who is already using another Xiaomi wearable. The Mi Band 7, for example, uses the Zepp Life app, which is not compatible with Zepp OS. It’s not clear how the company chooses where each device is located, but it doesn’t seem to be related to the brand and sub-brand. One way or another, it is through Zepp OS that everything happens with this watch.

The options in the app are for customization with the ability to download multiple watch faces. There is also an attempt at the app store where we can activate and deactivate some features that are still basic, this has nothing to do with what Apple and Samsung offer on the system.

You can also customize the order in which each option appears on the watch on your mobile phone, or even remove options you don’t use.

You can still choose to receive mobile notifications on the smartwatch screen, but there is no option to change the font size on the message display.

Alexa on your wrist

For those who have already centralized their smart devices on Alexa, another calendar sync device can be a great solution. You can access your devices right from your wrist, without having to activate the Alexa app on your phone to turn off a light you may have left on or give any of the normally customized commands.
