A whole delegation of entrepreneurs from China arrived at the meeting of the Russian-Chinese Business Council (RCBC) in Primorye, including representatives from Geely. It is believed that after the results of the negotiations, the “heavenly” manufacturer will be able to take over the car plant of the Sollers holding company in Vladivostok, where until recently Mazda cars were assembled.

This year the joint venture between Mazda and Sollers celebrated its 10th anniversary. The car factory produced the Mazda6 sedan, CX-5 and CX-9 crossovers, but events in February, disruption of supply chains and a consequent acute shortage of components forced the Japanese to “freeze” conveyor belts. The company vacation was believed to end in mid-May, but the site is still inactive.

Officially, Mazda representatives have not stated their intention to curtail car production in Russia. But if the Japanese decide to end the partnership with Sollers permanently, they will probably find a replacement soon. For example, Geely could become a new partner of the domestic holding company.

According to the PrimaMedia agency, active negotiations are underway to open Geely dealerships in Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. The parties may also discuss the possible localization of cars at the Sollers joint venture with Mazda at a meeting of the Russian-Chinese Business Council. The AvtoVzglyad portal requested official confirmation of the information to the brand’s Russian representative office, but they declined to comment.
