In 1998, the Belarusian MAZ and the German MAN established a joint venture CJSC MAZ-MAN, which produced very curious tractors – with a MAN cab, engine and gearbox, but on a Maz chassis. In 2005, the delivery of MAN F2000 cab modules stopped and a pure Mazov cab took its place (after which the cars were nicknamed MAZ-MAZ).

Further. MAN decided to leave the founders and therefore the company changed its market benchmarks and started producing non-standard trucks for specialized tasks. MAN engines and ZF gearboxes were installed on them, and the company made the frames itself and ordered spars from China. Bridges could be ordered in Chinese, Belarusian and German.

It is interesting that the cabs were shipped from the Minsk Automobile Plant, but they are equipped with original plumage and also extensively modified, in particular by shifting the electrical wiring. At the same time, the trucks managed to find their regular buyer: Surgutneftegaz, for example, is listed with the latter.

Obviously, MAZ-MAN is now forced to abandon imported components. In particular, the car will have to try the “heavenly” Weichai engine – these in-line “sixes” develop a power of 430, 460 or 550 horsepower.

As the manufacturer assures, in 2015 and 2017 Minskers tried to put Veychaev diesels on their products. And the experience has been extremely positive. So, in theory, the change in the total base shouldn’t scare off potential customers.

And continue the theme of forced import substitution. The Minsk Automobile Plant some time ago developed a third-generation city bus – a very spectacular car, the silhouette of which (according to the intent of the designers) should resemble a bison. Counting on exports, the novelty was equipped with European units. Which must now be removed.
