We don’t yet know how the new tire market will change if stocks of rubber made and/or imported before March last year run out. It is quite possible that instead of the usual models from Italian, French and Finnish manufacturers, Russians will have to fit the products of the Iranian tire industry on their cars.

The publication of Akcenty, citing the director of the Iranian Tire Industry Guild Association Hamidreza Abdolmaleki, reports that the first contracts for the supply of Iranian tires to Russia were recently signed. Before that, Afghanistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Armenia were the main buyers of tires from the Middle East.

Local tire manufacturers are known to have access to Pirelli and Continental technologies, but most operations are performed on outdated equipment launched before 1979. On the other hand, products from the Islamic Republic are distinguished by a democratic – even lower than their Chinese counterparts – price.

But apparently we are not without imported rubber either. For example, the German company Continental has resumed production at its Russian tire factory, which is located near Kaluga. And although political reasons were previously cited as the reason for the company’s closure, the management of the German company decided not to abandon the asset, in which 240 million euros in investments had been invested.
