The traffic police of the Republic of Komi has reported the opening of a criminal case against a driver who was driving a car with a false OSAGO policy. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” provides details.

The story happened on July 18, when at about 5:35 am on Kirov Street in the city of Syktyvkar, traffic police officers stopped a Kia Rio to check documents. Behind the wheel was a local resident born in 1990. The OSAGO policy presented by the citizen seemed suspicious to the traffic police.

There was no signature or seal on the document, moreover, the form itself aroused suspicions of its authenticity. The inspectors checked it through the website of the Russian Union of Motor Insurance and found that the document containing the checked policy number was not in the database.

For driving without a valid OSAGO policy, the Code of Administrative Offenses implies a fine for the driver of 800 rubles according to part 2 of Article 12.37. However, the detained motorist for some reason told the police that he himself had devised a fake policy. On this basis, a criminal case has already been opened against him under Part 1 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, for “forging, manufacturing or selling false documents, state awards, stamps, seals, letterheads.” Accordingly, the car owner is already threatened with a prison sentence of up to two years.
