“Bumps” closely entered the lives of car owners and pedestrians, as a means of protecting the latter from a collision. On the other hand, motorists have a continuous negative about it – on the roads where the safety bump has appeared, it becomes slow, cork, or even problems can be made with the technical part of the car due to the fact that many drivers have not learned how they can pass an artificial obstacle well. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells you how to overcome the speed bump to avoid problems.

Speed bumps have become the scourge of car suspensions and at the same time rescue for pedestrians on our roads. Yes, thanks to them, the speed of vehicles was reduced where necessary, which immediately led to the problem of congestion in traffic jams.

And for some cars, bumps on the road have become a real test of strength – you can still find homely, and not just “classics” with a ball joint that fell apart while driving over a speed bump. And yet, artificial obstacles have become an effective means of protecting pedestrians from collisions. And what about the drivers? Unfortunately, they just have to put up with it and learn how to ride speed bumps properly so they don’t mourn a fallen bumper or suspension issues later on.

Let’s start with the fact that speed bumps are regulated by GOST. All information can be found under the alphanumeric code R 52605-2006. According to the document, an artificial obstacle should not be higher than 70 cm, and its width, with a speed limit of 20 km / h, should fit in 3-3.5 meters. If the speed limit is 30 km/h, the width is increased by one meter. At 40 km/h, the “speed bump” must be at least 6-6.5 meters wide. They must be made of metal or asphalt concrete.

However, in reality, artificial bumps are formed on the roads, which in what many, what motorists who pay this blasphemy about GOST with bumpers, thresholds and suspensions of their cars only annoy. However, if you follow a few simple rules for riding this obstacle, there can be fewer problems.

First of all, when you see a sign indicating an obstacle, gradually reduce your speed. In cars with “mechanics” it is best to shift to second, and with a particularly high “speed threshold” – to first gear.

You have to enter the obstacle carefully and at a speed of up to 15 km / h. And then, without adding gas, literally roll over it with the rear wheels. At the same time, it is worth remembering that you need to slow down in advance, and not on the speed bump itself – in this case you can get a breakdown in the suspension, which is already compressed, or hit an obstacle with a bumper if the car is low enough.

Acceleration cannot be started until the car has completely passed over an artificial obstacle.

Experienced riders go through bumps using suspension release tactics. So just before entering an obstacle, they add a little gas to shift the weight of the car to the rear axle, relieving the load on the front shock absorbers. After passing the speed bump with the front axle, they press the brake to shift the center of gravity to the front axle. After you adjust, as they say, you do this on the machine. However, we recommend that you play it safe and if you see an obstacle in the road, overcome it carefully.
