Frankly, I still do not understand why Ivanovo is included in the so-called large “Golden Ring” of Russia, and Shuya, for example, only in the small one. If we only consider the size of cities, then there are no questions. And if the tourist value, I’d still bet. But first things first…

A little over a hundred kilometers from Kostroma all fly by unnoticed along the same highway P132. Let me remind you that I had no fuel in stock in this Volga city, relying on the rather modest appetite of my “horse”. And the Chinese full-size crossover Exeed VX with four-wheel drive really did not disappoint – only at the entrance to the “calico capital” of Russia, the car reminded that it was time to “eat”.

It is curious that on the Kostroma-Ivanovo-Suzdal-Gus-Khrustalny-Ryazan route (about 500 km, taking into account some deviations from the route), the “Chinese” showed simply fantastic fuel consumption – less than 8 liters per hundred. But overall I covered exactly 3,000km during the test, mostly on country roads, including the high-speed M11 and the central ring road, the stalled M8, the slow P132 plus many short city intersections, although I did not meet the 8.5 l/ 100 km indicated by the manufacturer, but the result of 9.6 l/100 was very satisfied. But back to our ‘tourist sheep’.

P132 is not heavily loaded in these places, with decent coverage, rare fixation cameras and is very picturesque in places. Since I was saving fuel, I walked imposingly, unhurriedly, although you can misbehave on the highway – traffic cops don’t seem to find them in these places. Which, by the way, both Kostroma and Ivanovo drivers like to use. The latter are completely insane. But if outside the city their frills are somehow leveled by a free road, then motorized guests of the city in Ivanovo itself should keep their eyes open.

Famously cut off, by no means unmissable, signal for a second delay at the traffic lights here in the order of things. And all this against the background of mediocre roads and poorly organized traffic. In short, the car traveler should be careful and careful.

Especially when you consider that rare local sights are scattered around the city and it is extremely inconvenient to get to know them without wheels. Although to get acquainted, as according to the Hamburg account, and there is nothing. A few churches and a monastery, a few houses from the time of Soviet Constructivism, a few monumental buildings from the 17th and early 20th century. At the same time, there is no pleasure to walk along the architecturally miserable streets-squares, unlike, for example, charming, in the veil of a merchant’s scale and noble sophistication of Yaroslavl.

But museum life is in full swing here, if you like this part. Chintz, fossils and minerals, paintings, weapons, Soviet power and even cars (the complete Volga collection with Seagulls and ZiL in between) are presented here in numerous expositions in full growth. But in general, I repeat, Ivanovo is a simple, boring and inconvenient city stuck in the USSR.

In this sense, the nearby Shuya is much “smarter” with its short Arbat, the Balmont Museum, the beautiful old train station, the curious estate of Pavlov (emphasis on the second syllable), the chic Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ and, of course , the State Wine Warehouse No. 3 museum. Well, not so much a museum, but a shop that sells great – I highly recommend – local “booze” in the entourage of the wine and vodka antiquity of a bygone era.

In other words, if you want to completely conquer the Golden Ring, skip Ivanovo, slow down in Shuya and go to Suzdal. Where, in addition to its eternal beauties, the food is excellent and the accommodation excellent. And in the city of brides (there are fewer of them, by the way, “thanks” to the total elimination of weaving and related industries) there is nowhere to eat with feeling, good, with arrangement, and hotel service is not up to par.

The interior of the only modern hotel “Russian Manchester” seems to be nothing (even with a sauna and a swimming pool on the roof), but the kitchen can not withstand criticism, and the staff can not boast of hospitality and attention to the guests . In short, let’s move on. In addition, as already mentioned, you can relax on the road. Like the car that drives me through it.

After all, Chinese cars, which still suffer from not very precise settings for the chassis, steering, braking and other systems, have always been famous for the abundance of comfort options, and more recently for safety. And Exeed VX is no exception. In other words, if you can still blame him in terms of behavior not only on impassable roads, but also just plain bad roads (he doesn’t like potholes, potholes, potholes, and rather actively broadcasts them to the driver and passengers), then there are serious claims to his other abilities and skills no.

Spacious, elegant 7-seater cabin, where even the passengers in the third row of seats won’t feel too cramped. Comfortable seats with heating and ventilation. Panoramic sunroof in two parts. Adequately working “climate”. Contactless charging of smartphones. What else do you need to enjoy a long road trip? Perhaps nothing more for the passenger. And the driver in such leisurely walks along free highways will also benefit from a smart autopilot.

And in that sense, “Exid” did not disappoint. Well, almost did not disappoint. Adaptive cruise control quite confidently “steers” the car, but does not allow the “steering wheel”: it keeps speed and distance, actively monitors blind spots and certainly will not “overtake” with the stern of the vehicle in front . But (here it is – the completely Chinese problem of settings) does not keep the car in the middle of the lane, “talking” from the dividing line to the curb; too careful, braking too early and far from the obstacle and then gaining strength for too long. But it’s still winning, so let’s move on!
