The Iranian company SAIPA has been trying for several years to restart production of Renault Logan of the first generation. In this country, “Logan” is known as Tondar
The fact that the production of Tondar 90 will start again, with the help of AVTOVAZ specialists, was announced by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Islamic Republic. The Motor1 portal publishes such a message on its pages.
We note that the Iranian “Logan”, that is, “Tondar”, has a rather difficult fate. It was produced in the country from 2007 to 2019, but after the next sanctions introduced in 2018, the French stopped cooperating with SAIPA. However, the Iranians themselves upgraded the model in 2020. The name of the sedan was changed to SAIPA P90, and then the designers changed the front and rear of the body, installed new lighting equipment and made innovations in the cabin.
As for the engines, the Iranians plan to use the Togliatti engines. We are talking about gasoline “engines” VAZ-11182 (1.6 l, 90 hp), VAZ-21129 (1.6 l, 106 hp) and VAZ-21179 (1.8 l, 122 l. . s.) , who want to dock with a copy of the 5-speed “mechanics” Renault JHQ, which is located in Iran under the name SAIPA 5F18. Recall that VAZ-21129 is under the hood of LADA Largus, that is, Togliatti has significant experience in integrating their engines into cars of the French B0 platform.
In addition, there was news that Turkey is interested in the production of Russian-Iranian cars. From all this we can conclude that in theory the Russian-Iranian Renault Logan of the first generation will appear in Russia. Of course under a different name. Nevertheless, this car is well known to our customers and is distinguished by a strong body and an “indestructible” suspension. If an appropriate price tag is offered, the sedan has every chance of success.
