Knowing this, we decided to talk about a car that we categorically do not recommend in the near future, even on the most beautiful transport from the Middle Kingdom – the Skoda Rapid Liftback.
Only in times of turbulence do people most often realize that after all “how well we used to live bad!” Now this expression is more than appropriate, when we talk about the automotive sphere of our existence. Problems in the Russian car market from a year ago are no longer perceived as such. On the contrary: the prices then were not like the current ones, the cars were sold freely … You could go to any Skoda dealer and order a Rapid – the twin brother of the Volkswagen Polo.
That is, a car that was rightly considered one of the most balanced in terms of consumer characteristics among budget class cars in Russia. To buy a new Skoda Rapid in a top configuration, with a 125 hp turbo engine and a 7-speed “robot” is still a lot of searching at car dealers. with little hope of success. Therefore, when this Czech-German sedan appeared on our test, and even in such equipment – style – we were delighted and began to enjoy the liftback business.
The surrealism of the current situation in the Russian market also lies in the fact that in one car dealership they can agree (so be it!) to sell you a Rapid million for three rubles. And in the other, for exactly the same amount, they will offer to buy a scarce LADA Vesta. Such grimaces of “pricing” don’t surprise anyone now, although back in the day a typical Rapid buyer wouldn’t have thought of looking at Vesta.
At the same time, Chinese brands will enter the domestic car market. Honestly believing that now, surely, their time has come. Crossovers are brought to us in a continuous flow from China. As if cars with other body shapes do not exist in nature. With all this in mind, Skoda Rapid can now be considered almost a dream car. When you are in his cabin and using all this German ergonomics, you feel a real “European” lateral support on your back, you absorb the brand “Vagovsky” interior design with your eyes …
No, what the hell! I don’t want the “Czechs” to even think about leaving Russia! God bless them, with all these “Makdachkas”, “Ikeas” and “Zarami” that escaped us – a good tablecloth. But from the “machines” – hands off! With such thoughts it is now better not to ride the same Rapid. It’s a complete nostalgic frustration to feel how he steers clearly in German, how he keeps track in the corner, how easily he goes around the track. Well, fuel economy. In my hands, a 125-horsepower Rapid, during prolonged driving at speeds of 100-120 km / h on the highway, usually “ate” about 5 liters of gasoline “per hundred”. And in the city, his on-board computer showed consumption at the level of 6-6.5 liters, nothing more.
Show me at least one modern “Chinese” capable of such a thing… Or take the suitcase. While the budget Skoda Rapid’s rear seats can easily withstand many hours of travel, the model’s luggage compartment (if needed) houses an unimaginable amount of clutter. Yes, and it’s convenient to ship: Skoda’s signature “chip” – the liftback body – is very useful in everyday life.
The conclusion from the above is simple. If you now have the opportunity to purchase a new Skoda Rapid, grab it without hesitation. And if you already have it – don’t try to sell it, you’ll probably regret it later!
