American automaker Dodge has unveiled a special version of its iconic Challenger coupe called Shakedown. This is the first of seven versions to complete the production of such cars with gasoline engines. They want to turn the legendary muscle car into an electric car.

Production of the Challenger coupe and Charger sedan is scheduled to end in December 2022. After that, the manufacturer will take a break and in a few years will revive these cars, but already as electric vehicles.

As for the Challenger Shakedown, under the hood is a 6.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with an output of 485 horsepower. The car is distinguished by a special “color” in the style of the classic 1971 model, nameplates and large air intakes on the hood.

Apparently environmentalists, even in the United States, have taken their toll and it is becoming increasingly difficult for companies to produce high-performance versions of gasoline cars. They are easier to convert to electric traction. So the era of muscle cars is coming to an end. However, Russian muscle car fans can still bring in a used Challenger from, say, Georgia.
