Moscow AZLK launched production of the front-wheel drive model Moskvich-2141 in 1986. For the factory, this was an undeniable breakthrough, but the car itself did not differ in quality. Moreover, it immediately rotted into holes, and when it broke, the process went like an avalanche. One failure led to another. It is not surprising that VAZ products attracted more buyers. Then AZLK gradually began to have problems, and later it ceased to exist altogether.
At AVTOVAZ it went better. The people at Togliatti already had a G8, which they learned to drive at the Porsche training ground. Since 1987, the production of the VAZ-2109 began, and since 1991, buyers have appreciated the VAZ-21099 sedan. All of these front-wheel drive family modifications are still on the way. Our citizens warmly received these cars, but at that time rare foreign cars began to appear on the country’s roads. And now the VAZs, which received the popular nickname “chisels”, unfortunately lost to them.
IzhMash also distinguished itself with efforts to prepare the production of Izh-2126 Orbita. The factory workers had been testing prototypes for years, but they couldn’t start small-scale production until 1990. During this time, the factory began to produce a cargo passenger modification of the “heel” – Izh-27156. However, it was already a morally and technically outdated car. Yes, and “Orbita”, although it was more reliable than “Moskvich”, but lost to VAZ cars. We are not talking about foreign cars.
