The reasons why it is not possible to provide intersections in the form of turbo ring intersections on the highways are given. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” provides details.

From the GOST developed on behalf of Rosavtodor “Public highways. Ring intersections. Design Rules” removed the so-called turbo ring intersections on high-speed roads. Recall that this term is understood as such an organization of road intersections, in which cars practically do not slow down and do not change lanes between spiral lanes at the intersection. This type of road crossings are equipped in Moscow, Cheboksary and Tyumen.

The Metropolitan Deptrans, headed by Maxim Liksutov, once lobbied for the appearance of this type of roundabout in the city. Metropolitan region officials argued that turbocrossings would reportedly reduce the number of accidents and improve traffic flow.

Experts involved in Rosavtodor came to the conclusion that for normal traffic at the turbo intersection, the car must first turn into the desired lane, which is not always possible. And when leaving its left lane, the car cuts off the lane that continues to move in a circle to its right. This is a serious violation of the traffic rules and leads to accidents.

– Immediately after the opening of traffic at such intersections in England, the Netherlands and Canada, there was an increase in accidents and congestion. Over time, the number of accidents decreased, but the turbo ring intersections continued to be places with constant traffic jams, according to Kommersant, according to Rosavtodor.

The fact is that the entire traffic pattern along the turbo intersection is based on a clearly visible marking. When it wears out or is hidden under a layer of snow, the carriage “turns into a pumpkin”: the turbo roundabout becomes the site of a concentration of accidents and traffic jams. Strangely enough, unlike Rosavtodor, the road authorities of the capital prefer not to notice that something like this is happening right under their noses.
