Non-standard life hack: how to quickly restore the shine of a faded bumper yourself

Even if the car does not have an accident and the driver is not in the habit of scraping the sides and bumpers along the fences and curbs, the details of the bodywork will lose their original shine over time. The AvtoVzglyad portal introduces unexpected ways to reduce it to at least plastic parts.

Unpainted black plastic mufflers are a practical and inexpensive solution. Many car owners prefer not to pay too much for body-colored bumpers, logically assuming that this is an unwarranted waste of money. After all, it is these elements that suffer the most from all kinds of contact between the car and the surrounding “landscape”. And on the black unpainted bumper, traces of such incidents are practically invisible. No repairs are therefore required. Economy in all respects. But such a bumper has a minus.

Even if the car has never been a victim of sloppy maneuvering, after a fairly short time the bumper changes from black to sloppy gray – faded and ugly. The reason for this is the sun’s rays and the “sandblasting” where sand and mud come from under the wheels of other cars. Some car owners do not pay attention to such a metamorphosis of the outside of the bumper, but it irritates someone.

But at first glance there is nothing to be done about it: well, not painting, in fact a part that was originally colorless? However, there is a way out. Even a few. You can use special automotive chemicals, although the experience of using them is guaranteed to disappoint. Some preparations only “darken” a little, but do not get rid of the dullness of the detail.

Others, which first return to their original color, are already washed off during the first or second wash. Nevertheless, there is still a drug that can permanently restore the blackness of an unpainted bumper. And it is very budget friendly. We’re talking chemistry for blackening tire sidewalls! It is sold in aerosol packaging, which greatly simplifies its application.

By “pouring” the bumper with a tire agent, the car owner gets what he wanted: a rich black color of the body part, which does not wash away for very long. The only nuance that you need to be prepared for is that a few days after treatment with “tire ink”, the bumper may have too greasy shine. But this effect soon disappears on its own.

The second non-standard way to restore the color of a black bumper is to use a hair dryer. The fact is that when the top layer of plastic is heated, the micro-roughness of the surface is slightly melted and smoothed out. It becomes smoother and regains the lost black color. The most important thing when using a hair dryer is accuracy. After all, if you overheat the plastic a little, it will soften more than necessary and the bumper will lose its shape in this place.
