After the events of February, the prices of cars – both new and used – rose sharply, prompting many to think about buying a car abroad. Buying a foreign car abroad can really save you money. Unless of course you are lucky not to run into any scammers.

In recent months, many new “fake” sites, groups on social networks and channels in instant messengers have appeared on the web – their fraudulent owners offer Russians the services of selecting and dropping off a car from abroad. (usually from Japan, China and Kazakhstan), and also for further assistance with registration. The scheme is classic: after the customer transfers the advance, the “consultant” disappears.

According to Tinkoff Zashchita, cybersecurity specialists identified more than 400 pages of scammers posing as pickers in July-August. The exact number of Russians hooked by criminals is not known – it is only known that there have been five times more since the beginning of the year. If we talk about the “advance payments” that gullible citizens transferred to the robbers, then on average it is 300,000 rubles.

Since it is impossible to completely eliminate car scammers, the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Car Owners calls on citizens to exercise extreme caution. In particular, his deputy chairman Alexander Kholodov advises those who decide to buy a car abroad to look for reliable “outputs” through acquaintances. And if there are no such acquaintances, then select a company on the Internet, but at the same time carefully study the reviews and give preference to those that have been on the market for a long time.
