It has happened: the first 23-kilometer section of the M12 Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan mega route has been commissioned. Drivers can test the new high-speed road by driving from the central ring road to the Bolshaya Betonka in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo area.

It is curious that the first part (or rather, the first start-up complex of the zero phase) was built in the shortest possible time: the road builders had only a year to complete. On the 23-kilometer stretch, 11 artificial structures were built: in particular, bridges over the Klyazma and Vyrka, as well as two traffic interchanges – with the central ring road and the A-108. A six-lane road (three lanes in each direction) allows you to bypass traffic jams in the Noginsk region, saving about 30 minutes.

As for the rates, they will be announced a little later. But when we talk about the method of collecting tolls, there are no traditional barrier points on the new high-speed road: there the Free Flow barrier-free system (P-shaped frames with cameras and sensors) is used – the same one that is used used on the central ring road travel time (by transponder) or after – within five days.

What’s next? By the end of this year, the state-owned Avtodor will commission an additional 106km of the route: 47.2km of the first leg of the M12 and 36.5km of the second – both passing through the Vladimir region. And in 2023, all other sections will open and drivers will be able to get from Moscow to Kazan in just 6.5 hours instead of the current 12, due to the congestion of the M7 motorway.
