The simplest experiment: why wash the steering wheel of a car?

The Mitsubishi Lancer editors have been gone all summer and frankly gave no reasons for publications. He twirled and turned the wheels, rumbled and creaked plastic on bumps, and regularly soiled the asphalt with droplets of various liquids. But as soon as autumn came, the mood of the car deteriorated sharply: various sores and ailments began to creep in, inseparable from the weather and age. Or maybe he just wanted to draw attention to himself? He did it!
Any work activity should start with cleaning the workplace: it is more pleasant to work at a clean table, on a clean machine and in a clean car interior, so let’s go after the usual “water procedures” that are performed at any car wash , moving on to the little things. In which, as you know, lies the devil.
Bodywork, plastic, glass, vacuum cleaner – even washing machines can handle this quickly and productively. But what about the steering wheel? Appearance – clean, but if you “dig deep”, the intestines begin to roll towards the throat: a simple home remedy for fat, which can be found in every kitchen, can open such intestines that make your head spin.
Judge for yourself: the very first treatment of the handlebars with a foam composition showed that the kilos of dirt that have accumulated over 18 years are hidden in the pores and perforations. The foam will brown in seconds and draw out the grease, but just brushing off the detergent is not enough: the next application of the image does not change.
All the same sickening mass of which the tip and rim are not visible. Did they just touch it with their hands? After thoroughly washing both palms with soap, we triple the amount of rags, arm ourselves with an old toothbrush and begin the “general cleaning” of the steering wheel.
Layer by layer, using modern “chemistry” with a good old brush, we remove layer by layer, reaching the base. To be honest, this is both physical and moral work, opening the horizons of consciousness: something that honestly didn’t look dirty at all, after a little processing turned out to be just a garbage dump of several pairs of hands.
Once you complete this feat – after the first hour of cleaning the “steering wheel” the metal skeleton seemed to appear faster than a clean surface – you begin to realize that cleaning the steering wheel should be done every few months, not a times a year according to the mood and a bottle of foam.
The result of the experiment is sad: the once luxurious MOMO sports steering wheel, which our Mitsubishi Lancer was equipped with at the factory, has changed over the years into a battered, burnt and worn “steering wheel”. Yes, we washed and cleaned him, but the work with him will continue – we have already prepared a solution that can restore and become his youth. As always – for a penny. Follow the publications.
