As for UAZ, it is unlikely that he will come up with something new and, moreover, his own. UAZ CEO Adil Shirinov already spoke about this in 2021. Then the top manager said that the manufacturer refused to invest in production. So it is much easier to install products from the Korean company Dymos or the Chinese BAIC on outdated cars. And now only BAIC, as UAZ was under sanctions.

Recall that initially a domestic four-speed gearbox was installed on the same Hunter. But it is already morally outdated and does not meet current requirements. And it is not profitable to develop a modern transmission for a car born in the USSR. “Hunter” and thus will be bought by those who need a cheap all-terrain vehicle. So here the issue of new developments is finally closed.

If we take a younger model – “Patriot”, then for him there is a 5-speed unit of the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant, which is distinguished by an advanced circuit diagram. To engage reverse gear, move the lever to the opposite 1st gear position. And the 4th is taken to the place of the default placement of the reverse gear. Such a scheme is devised to quickly get out of the mud by swinging. However, in the city it is inconvenient, the clarity of work leaves much to be desired, and the reliability of the “mechanic” does not shine. Therefore, the factory replaced it in 2005 with the Korean Dymos.

And here the same question arises: why do something new for the patriot? After all, this is in fact also an outdated model. And to develop a new “mechanics” huge investments are needed. It is necessary not only to ensure the work of the technical personnel, but also to organize the foundry production of housings and gears. At the same time, it is not a fact that the resulting product will be of the quality of today’s. After all, the main causes of transmission failures are the quality of components. The metal is so “thin” that after 50,000 km you can see the fatal wear of the synchronizers. And all “boxes” have oil leakage. This is a common “pain” of domestic broadcasts. And it seems to be hereditary.

In short, we are sure that Russia will not develop new gearboxes for Ulyanovsk SUVs. It is very expensive and takes a long time. It’s easier to buy everything in China. This is confirmed by UAZ itself. As the source “Autoreview” reports, Ulyanovsk is already preparing for testing the commercial “Profi” with a 6-speed “mechanics” manufactured by Zhu Zhou.
