It is likely that the Czech carmaker will replace its best-selling Skoda Octavia with an electric car. According to a number of media reports, the development of a successor to the model has already started. The replacement won’t happen right away, though, as European Union laws allow companies to manufacture cars with trusted engines until 2035.
According to the British publication Autocar, engineers in Mladá Boleslav are already working on an electric successor to the Octavia. The novelty is expected to be built on the promising “trolley” SSP (Scalable Systems Platform): it is currently being developed by Volkswagen.
The innovative successor of the Skoda Octavia gets two electric motors that only turn the front wheels. And soon there will be a “charged” RS version with four electric motors. That is, it will be a liftback or four-wheel drive station wagon.
At the same time, the Czechs will continue to produce the Octavia with the usual engines, as permitted by EU law. We may even see the next generation of a model with a petrol engine. The current Octavia will undergo a planned restyling in 2024.
