The reliability of Japanese cars is legendary. Probably, also for this reason, many practical Russians dream of a brand new crossover from the Land of the Rising Sun. But is it realistic to buy it today, when stocks and factories are “frozen”? At what prices do dealers offer cars? The answers to these and other questions were found by the AvtoVzglyad portal, which took a walk through the showrooms of Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Mazda in the capital.

Toyota decided to permanently close its St. Petersburg plant, which produced RAV4 crossovers and Camry sedans. Judging by everything, Mazda will follow suit, which is already negotiating the withdrawal from the joint venture with Sollers in Vladivostok. Nissan and Mitsubishi local assembly sites will be shut down until at least the end of the year. But at the same time, none of the Japanese manufacturers have suspended sales so far – dealers work with stocks.

“What else is there to work with?” – you may be wondering. Yes, as the experiment of the AvtoVzglyad portal showed, there are cars in showrooms. Plus, there are plenty of popular crossovers, which have had queues lined up for the February events. Another question is that they are offered at incredibly “caustic” prices – so that you involuntarily think of buying a “Chinese” or parallel import. But let’s discuss everything in order.

TOYOTA

Toyota is not doing well: in January-August, the brand lost 69% of sales, with only 19,000 cars. On the other hand, why be surprised when dealers charge 4.2 million rubles for a bestseller – a RAV4 crossover with mediocre performance. Ready to take out a loan and arrange a trade-in? The price is reduced to 3.8 million, and this despite the fact that the maximum suggested retail price of a car listed on the Toyota website is 3,658,000 rubles (Rafik in the top version of Prestige Safety).

A similar story is with the C-HR crossover, which the advisor offered us as an alternative: “only” 3.9 million rubles for cash (with a maximum suggested retail price of 3.1 million). “Expensive? Then a used RAV4 might be a one-year-old car for 3.3 million? But since we declined this option, emphasizing that we were looking for a new crossover, the seller recommended getting faster to think – they say car stocks will run out by the end of the year.

MITSUBISHIA

Although Mitsubishi is in roughly the same conditions as Toyota, the environment in the Three Diamonds showrooms is completely different. No hassle – no hungry buyers, no energetic sellers. For the whole car dealer – one quiet advisor, not at all in the mood for “steaming”. And the prices are surprisingly very reasonable. High, of course, but not much different from those indicated on the manufacturer’s website.

We were particularly interested in the Outlander crossover. It turned out that cars with a 2-liter engine and front-wheel drive are now the most sought-after. The top 2WD Intense+ package can be taken for 3.5 million (200,000 more than the RRP). And taking into account additional discounts on Trade-in and other services, it’s even more beneficial. But it is still more advantageous to take the Outlander with 4WD in the simplest version: 2,850,000 rubles with a “trade in” and for cash.

In general, there are still a lot of all kinds of “Outlanders” in the warehouses of Moscow dealers. As the advisor said, car dealers are actively buying them from their colleagues from the regions and even neighboring countries – especially from Belarus. But all the cars that come from there are hung with “dopas”, which puts a huge strain on the price list. And almost all of them – two liters. It is believed that stocks will last until November – then there will be a shortage and prices will rise.

NISSAN

Very different, extremely pessimistic moods prevail in Nissan and it seems that this company has already given up. Why have we come to this conclusion? First, the brand donated half of its showroom in Khimki near Moscow to Chinese Chery and Exeed – it’s the premium TXL that welcomes visitors at the entrance. Second, if Mitsu has one salesperson in a car dealership, Nissan doesn’t have it at all.

We waited about twenty minutes for the consultant – not to lie -. During this time, we managed to communicate with the seller of the Chinese wing and take a closer look at the bored Nissan X-Trail and Qashqai in the showroom. The promised manager never showed up: instead a young lady from some “documentary” department approached us. I read the information from the price tag counter (2.8 million for the base X-Trail) and added indifferently that there were no other options. Not at all.

MAZDAI

Finally, we looked in the Mazda showroom – we asked about the once-running CX-5 model. It turned out that the range of crossovers is quite large: there are different colors, configurations, modifications. The most affordable option, announced to us, is a car with a 2-liter engine and front-wheel drive in the average Active version for 3.3 million rubles, subject to trade-in. In general, like the Mitsubishi Outlander – this is what you like more.

… Summarizing the results of our experiment, we note that today it is quite possible to buy a popular Japanese crossover in a car dealership – if there is a desire and financial possibilities. And if there is a problem with the last point, then you can really think about parallel import. In addition, as the AvtoVzglyad portal has repeatedly written before, there are many attractive options in foreign markets.
