Import substitution at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has almost reached its peak: Dymos transfer cases are being replaced by Indian Divgi-Warner and gearboxes from the same Korean company are being replaced by BAIC transmissions. In addition, it will not only affect the “conveyor” machines, but also the machines that have already been produced and sold – “friendly components” will also be used in the after-sales service.

Interestingly, Ulyanovsk has been eyeing Divgi-Warner transfer boxes for a long time, more than five years. That is, this story began long before the “coronacrises” and other events in February. Even then, the manufacturer was looking for an alternative to the Korean Dymos. There were no complaints about the device itself, but the price seemed too high UAZ.

But let’s go back to our time: UAZ will not limit itself to importing replacement gearboxes and transfer cases – the domestic factory will replace a whole range of components. Now the group does not disclose which friendly state will become an importer, for example ABS. However, there are suggestions that the territorial landmark is the Middle East.

What other parts and assemblies are on the list? Import replacement is awaited by water pump seals for ZMZ Pro engines, oxygen sensors, tensioners, injectors, a control unit, ignition coils and brackets for mounted units, Quto.ru reports. But the rotation of the German hydraulic chain tensioner INA is likely to cause a particularly deep disappointment for UAZ enthusiasts.

A series of “self-replacements” of components (starting with the sealing of the cabin, inflating the change of stock brakes and a complete redistribution of electrical wiring), apparently, does not bother the owners of the Ulyanovsk “rogues”. And without the Indian “handouts”, the new cars from the Ulyanovsk plant literally poured in, and what will happen to them is even scary to imagine. No wonder “UAZ” is known as “self-assembly” and their owners – automasochists.
