First of all, pay attention to how the battery is mounted in the engine compartment. It should not vibrate when the engine is running. And even more to fidget on the site. Any vibration will shorten the battery life as it can damage the battery’s internal components and cause a short circuit. This means it is important to use only high-quality branded battery clips. This is the only way to ensure the correct mounting of the battery.

One more piece of advice. Check the voltage at least once a month. If it falls below 12.3 volts, we recommend topping up the charge sooner. The fact is that the life of a lead-acid battery is significantly shortened if left uncharged for a long time. A good lead-acid battery should have a voltage of about 12.7 volts or higher.

All this must be done because the battery is maintenance-free. In other words, it has no plugs for filling electrolyte or distilled water. And if the charge begins to fall, such a battery will no longer be able to perform its functions and will have to be scrapped.

Of course you can prolong the “excruciating pain”. periodically remove the “battery” and charge it from a portable device. But the battery does not last long, especially in winter. This prevents the engine from starting at the most inopportune moment. The result is the same as described above – for recycling.

But don’t be discouraged! There is a cardinal “old-fashioned” method of extending the operation of an expensive device. To do this, it is enough to carefully drill holes in the housing in order to be able to fill the electrolyte. Here the main difficulty is that it is difficult to put plugs in such holes. But here is a way out.

Holes can be sealed with a suitable piece of automotive vibration isolation. It tolerates acid very well, adheres well to plastic and seals holes reliably. This gives the car owner the opportunity to check and adjust the density of the electrolyte, which means that the battery will remain faithful for more than a year.
