Authorities suggested confiscating cars belonging to Russians traveling abroad

In the lower house of the Russian parliament, discussions began on legislative initiatives that would allow the seizure of cars abandoned by Russians at the borders. We are talking in particular about the vehicles that our fellow citizens leave when they try to cross the territory of Kazakhstan, Georgia and Armenia.

Oleg Morozov, deputy of the United Russia State Duma, made a proposal to legalize the seizure of vehicles belonging to Russians crossing the border, writes RIA Novosti. In addition, according to his initiative, owners of abandoned cars who do not agree with the expropriation must personally present their property rights.

“We urgently need to change the law in order to make decisions about the transfer to state ownership of vehicles that are not in demand for, say, a month after the owner crosses the border,” he said.

The idea of the parliamentarian was also answered in the field of case law – they say that in case of serious consideration of Morozov’s initiative, it is necessary to clarify the issue of compensation to the owners. And the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, in turn, thought about what to do with the cars seized by the mobilization emigration. And he admitted that the properties of those who left could be given in favor of the families of summoned citizens.

Yes, many kilometers of queues have indeed formed at the border checkpoints since the beginning of the partial mobilization in Russia. And although the traffic situation has improved (for example, in Georgia there is no traffic jam), the problem of abandoned cars left at the entrance of the border is still current. However, the seizure of such cars does not appear to be a necessary measure, but an attempt to punish and bring back the “escaped evaders”. And we can only hope that the story with this outrageous initiative does not go beyond discussions.
