5 easy ways to prepare your car for the cold that will save you a lot of money
Colds always come unexpectedly. Even if the driver punctures them, fitted tires and changed the oil on time, frost and rain can play a lot of bad jokes, costing a lot of time and money. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells how to avoid problems using simple actions.

First, open the hood and look at the cooling system pipes. If you see that the plastic closure has broken off somewhere (this happens due to constant vibrations), you should avoid possible serious repairs. Indeed, if the remnants of the clamp rub against the rubber, this will quickly lead to a reduction in pressure of the entire system. The result is a leakage of antifreeze, overheating and engine overhaul. Therefore, the clamp must be removed and replaced with a new one. And wrap the place of wear with heat-resistant electrical tape (it is sold in any hardware store).

Next, under the hood, we remove any foliage that has accumulated under the base of the windshield. Indeed, in this area there are drainage holes through which water flows flowing down from the “frontal” are diverted. If they become clogged, fluid could enter the wiper motor or the engine control module (ECU). The severity of the consequences depends on the layout of the engine compartment. Since the electrician is terribly afraid of water, it will simply burn out. In the worst case, the ECU will fail and the car will only continue on a tow truck.

The next step is to cleanse the body drain. Personally, I use a piece of thick wire to break through the drains: it’s quite flexible, while it’s sturdy. Therefore, it does not rest on the bends of the drain pipes, but goes to the bottom. In a similar way, it is elementary to remove small foliage and debris that clog drains. And you don’t have to disassemble anything or remove the boot liner to get to the drain pipes.

Fourth tip: Inspect the wheel nipples. Are there small cracks in them and, in general, whether the “nipples” are poisoning the air. Did you see a problem? Then the direct way to the tire shop. And if everything is normal, replace the metal guards with plastic ones. Such a cap will not “grab” frost, so you can easily unscrew it and pump up a puncture. Otherwise, there is a good chance that the nipple will collapse. Then you have to put in a reserve. And if the wheel bolts also freeze, then the “dancing with a tambourine” around the car lasts until the night.

Don’t forget the battery either. There should be no oxides or rust on the terminals. I remind you that if the car has been standing still for a long time, the battery needs to be charged. To do this, take the highway and drive about 100 kilometers. This allows you to properly load the generator and fully replenish the charge. Finally, insulate the battery. Materials such as felt or foil are suitable for this.
