Another prediction of the editors of the portal “AvtoVzglyad” came true. As we expected, the “expansion” of the base price rate band of the OSAGO policy caused a jump in average costs almost immediately. Now this fact is officially confirmed by the press service of the Russian Union of Motor Insurance. The Central Bank and insurance companies once “sang” in unison that extending the price “fork” in both directions — by 26% up and down — will allow most drivers to pay less for OSAGO.
Practice shows that in just one week from September 26 to October 2, the average price tag for compulsory insurance in Russia immediately rose by 10% – from 6985 to 7683 rubles. It rose the most in five regions: in Moscow – by 9% (from 11,012 to 12,054 rubles), in the Moscow region – by 15% (from 8,868 to 10,247 rubles), in St. Petersburg – by 14% (from 9213 to 10,462 rubles), in the Krasnodar Territory – by 10% (from 6714 to 7407 rubles), and in the Republic of Bashkortostan – also by 10% (from 6194 to 6843 rubles).
The general increase in the price of policies completely negates the early statements by representatives of the Central Bank and the so-called insurance community that almost 90% of drivers in our country are disciplined people and do not have accidents, and therefore will reportedly pay less after the extension of the “corridor”. The average price increase of an OSAGO policy in Russia by 10% means that in practice the majority of car owners, i.e. those “accident free and disciplined”, started paying more for “car citizenship”.
